Sleep

Getting quality sleep can be a challenge for those living with HIV. Insomnia and other sleep disorders are more common in individuals who are HIV positive compared to the general population. This may be due to a variety of reasons, including side effects from medication, stress, anxiety or symptoms of an infection, like fever, pain or dehydration. There are several things you can do to improve sleep. These include exercising during the day, powering down electronics at least an hour before bed, having bedtime rituals and keeping bedrooms at a cool temperature (65°-72°F). If you’ve made some of these changes and are finding you’re still unable to get quality sleep, it’s important to talk to your healthcare provider, as long-term lack of sleep can affect your health and quality of life.
